I do not believe families need fixing. I believe they need somewhere safe enough for understanding to grow.
Teri Potter came to this work the way many parents do, through her own family, and a desire to understand what was happening beneath the struggles in the relationships that mattered most.
She is trauma informed and trained in Compassionate Inquiry with Dr Gabor Maté's approach, Conscious Parenting with Dr Shefali Tsabary, and Richard Schwartz's Internal Family Systems foundations. Her work is grounded in curiosity, compassion and the belief that meaningful change begins when we feel deeply heard.
A Place to Land grew from that understanding. Sometimes we do not need another person telling us what to do. We need somewhere we can bring the whole truth of what is happening and have someone meet us there.
How Teri works
Teri reads what parents and carers write and replies in her own words, in her own time. There are no templates and no scripts. She is not there to grade what you have written or to hand you a plan for the week. She is there to notice what you may not have said out loud yet, and to reflect it back gently enough that you can look at it.
Most of what happens in a season happens in private. You write when you need to, sometimes daily, sometimes once a fortnight. When you want Teri's eyes on something, you mark it for her. Everything else stays yours alone.
Her training
Teri is trauma informed. Her training includes Compassionate Inquiry, developed by Dr Gabor Maté, Conscious Parenting with Dr Shefali Tsabary, and the foundations of Internal Family Systems, developed by Richard Schwartz.
Those approaches share one belief. Behaviour that looks difficult is usually protection of something tender underneath it, in a young person and in a parent alike. The work is not to argue with the behaviour but to get curious about what it is guarding.
What this is not
The True Self is not therapy. It is a writing space with a person alongside you. It is not a crisis service and it is not monitored through the night. If you or a young person is in danger, please use the emergency numbers listed across the site and speak to someone who can reach you today.
It is also not a parenting course. There is no curriculum to finish and nothing to fall behind on. A season is simply a stretch of time with somewhere honest to put what you are carrying.

Seasons of one, three, six or twelve weeks, from £29. A season ends on a stated date. You are invited to choose again, not charged again.
